Somehow, most of the events that Dinoza gets involved in this year have more than piqued my interest. This Disney event is no different, even though he has no direct involvement in it. I’m all for PG entertainment, and the more my kids can get involved in or enjoy, the better.

I brought my own “homeboys” sans baby Edry to the first half of the audition day, which consists of participants from the primary school levels. My homeboys only lasted about an hour and a half before they started fussing about going to the loo, etc etc, so I had to send them home. But My School Rocks definitely left enough impression on them to be still talking about the event until today.

I managed to convince my eldest son, Eric, to join me for the second half of the audition that afternoon (“Either escape with me or be your dad’s errand boy at home… you know what he’ll ask you to do. Everything.”) Both of us enjoyed the splendid show brought on by our very own local teens in the secondary school level, with both myself and Eric taking pictures of the event as much as we could.

Of course I have my favourites. I love the dance styles of All Saints, MSR 2010 winner, and the female dancers were especially excellent. Coincidentally, I spotted one girl who was also in the YES Hip-Hop Academy recently.

(My apologies for the abyssmal shot – that was the only snapshot I took of All Saints group B)

It was no wonder that SMK Bahang won last year – their facial expressions were fantastic, and their dance was exactly what you would look for in a high school dance – playful, synched, energetic.

Other noted performances are from La Salle Secondary School, SMK Tebobon, SMK Bundu Tuhan, SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin (donning a Jabberwocky-type costume), SMK Tamparuli, and SMK Kolombong. Actually, all of them were fantastic, so I was having a hard time predicting who the top winner was going to be.

For the primary school level, it was St James, Likas.

For the coveted prize, the Secondary level winner, who will be going for the national finals to win a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland, is La Salle!
