30-Day Blogging Challenge Day 20: Nicknames

From the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
Definition of NICKNAME
1 : a usually descriptive name given instead of or in addition to the one belonging to a person, place, or thing

Let’s exclude my Internet handle. What nicknames can you get out of the name “Lorna?”

Lorn — mostly used by my friends.

Na — mostly used by close family members only.

Lon — used by a math geek friend of mine once upon a time.

Mommy — used by my kids; especially useful when one of them are complaining about the other and needs adult intervention, i.e. “See, Mommy told you so!” or “I’M TELLING MOMMY!”

A plain ol’ name deserves a plain ol’ set of nicknames, if you ask me.

Come to think of it, though, I had never, in memory, ever been called funny names other than off my actual name. It’s probably because I don’t take crap from other people, and have the tendency to bully a bully when I spot one. And also probably because I intimidate people (and I still do today) without much effort, therefore people tend to avoid name-calling me.

The only other nickname I have been called was “Professor,” and even that was used by one of my relatives ages ago. This nickname doesn’t bother me one bit.

I would have thought that my mom would have a nickname for me like “scowl-face,” but nope, she got none of that.

If anyone would ever name-call me, I’d probably have a simple comeback for it. Like, if someone do call me “scowl-face,” I’d just look back at the person and ask, –

And what are you?
Pretty?
*utterly confused/shock/sarcasm/eye-roll/talk to the hand*

Like I said. Simple.

Because jerks and idiots don’t deserve witty comebacks.

Spread the love
