Yep, this is what happens when the wrath of the terrible twos descended upon thou. It used to look like this, looking sweet and pretty and all:
I would like to believe that all hope is not lost. I’ve sent it for repairs yesterday, and am still waiting for a quote from the shop. I’m honestly expecting a price that’s at least half the amount of what it’s bought for.
In the meantime, I’m seriously reconsidering replacing the Number 69 hand grenade that my two-year old son owns (disguised as his milk bottle) to something with a little more padding, maybe a mile thick. Anyone knows where I can get one?

The LCD screen of my laptop also got vertical white and color lines appear, and they are getting more and more (and more irritating) as days passed. The port that allows me to connect to an ext monitor also spoiled. Dell quoted me more than RM1,000 to repair the screen. Sigh… time to pay a new computer, this time may be a desktop.
More than RM1,000 is a LOT! It probably depends on the model, though. My experience getting an IBM laptop LCD screen repaired was RM400 at the most.
Desktop?? Wow, you must be really disappointed with your notebook.
Did you cry when that happened? Coz I know I will.. keh keh keh
I was too shocked to do anything :O
I can understand it been horrible moment for yours, it was sad because first our loved screen get cracked and cost of repairing.
i can feel the pain of having a cracked laptop screen because hey! it happened to my toshiba a105-s361 as well however i calmed down when a friend of mine told me about this website Visit http://www.laptopmaven.com! where they sell laptop screens of various models, so i figured ill give it a shot but then i said hey, how will i install it myself i am not a tech? so my friend tells me no worries this site actually directed me as how to change my laptop screen step by step so the whole thing costed me like 139.99 and it was money well spent, now my laptop is up and running and here i am typing this very message from that very laptop that was once cracked π
Ouch! Just curious, how do you like the netbook? Is it adequate for blogging/surfing?
It looks like the screen on my Acer. I just plugged it into a monitor and use it like that now.
Oh it looks horrible, sorry to see such a screen! It is funny as well. I can hardly imagine it being repaired to be honest… maybe get all your data and transfer it to a new laptop! good luck anyway π
Mine’s the same. Just sourcing a replacement screen now and Ebay UK have them for around 50 GBP and from reading round the net it looks fairly easy to replace. I’m not sending it back to Acer for them to charge me well over a hundred pounds!!!!
My Acer Aspire One 10.1″ screen was stepped on, and I found a great site,
“ScreenCountry.com” that sold me a replacement for $85.00USD, plus $18.00 for shipping and insurance. It arrived 4 days after I ordered, and I found instructions online on how to replace it!!
Best Buy quoted me “around $250” to fix it, and I’d only paid $350 for it and it was less than 6 months old, so Screen Country is the way to go!!
Thank you so much for recommending Screen Country. My granddaughter cracked her new Acer computer screen and was so worried. After Best Buy said it would be between $200 – $300 and they had to send out (for a $350 computer), I found your note on webgrrl and took a chance on Screen Country. I received my screen, inserted it myself (not bad for a 62 year old) for a total of $87 with shipping and I received it within 5 days. I think the screen looks better than the original. Thank you again for taking the time to comment – it really saved a granny.
I forgot to mention Screen Country has new easy video instructions which made the installation easy and within 30 minutes it was ready.
maybe get all your data and transfer it to a new laptop π
I purchased the ACER ASPIRE ONE netbook 8” for my daughter last year March. she had hardly been able to use it as it’s been slow and constantly checking for disk inconsistency which I’ve been told I’m not the only user to encounter the issue.
Now, recently, the screen became white with few stripes on the right corner. It is still under warranty and I have even purchased the extension 2 years warranty.
I have sent it back for repair at ACER via there DHL service.
I find it extremely dishonest that they now send me a Β£95 quotation cost for repair pretending the damage is ‘accidental’ and therefore not covered by the warranty pretending originally the poor quality of the packaging, revising their position once I told them I used the original packaging + bubble raping.
I am pursuing my complaint further as I find this attitude extremely dishonest.
Sorry to hear of your predicament, clarinette. I agree that the support they’re giving you sounds unhelpful in the very least.
There’s a tip I’ve been hearing from people that if you report your grievances via the social networks, specifically the company’s Twitter and Facebook accounts, and tell people to spread the word around, that they got a more proper and rightful response from the companies. You might want to try this out with Acer.
~~You are quite right Lorna. I have been tweeting regularly on that subject to allow other users know about the way they can be treated if they had any issue with there laptops.
Funnily enough, ACER does not even monitor there brand!!
I’ve had to deal with Acer laptops as a sysadmin around 2006. They are the only laptops I’ve seen randomly losing screws.
I won’t ever buy them again because of that experience. Fragile, inefficient laptops.
(Funny, my captcha is ” echoed by”, fits the context π )
wow sam situation except for i don’t really feel like spending money to fix mine ugh! i’m just mad about it
OMG! ii gott this fo christmas 2009 and its May 6th my parents always call me irresponsible!!! so my lil cuzzin slams my laptop shut! and the screnen is messed up OMG! idkk wat to do imma bout tew cry!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE HELP???!!!! Acer Aspire 5534
There is a class action suit being considered to be brought against Acer for many screens breaking during normal use. Some screens seem to be stronger but most breaks begin with a small andspreads rendering the Netbook useless. The cost to repair it is more than the cost of the Netbook..
Not a good Netbook.
