Cheer up with some funny sites

Monday, February 11th, 2008

I almost religiously lurk a few sites daily to give me a happy boost, so I thought I’d share it with you a few of my favourites. You can never go wrong with reading Blaugh.com, a site full of comics parodying life with the Internet and everything else. They like to tag themselves as the unofficial comic of the blogosphere, so it’s no surprise that they even have a plugin that you can use if you own your blog, so that you can display frequent doses of humour in your otherwise bland site. I used to have the plugin in my site till it stopped working for some unknown reason.

Humorous PicturesIf you’re not laughing at the photos known as LOLCats posted in I Can Has Cheezburger, then you must not have a single funny bone in you. Even my 7-year old son gets a laugh out of the captions. The best thing about this is that you can subscribe to its feed so that you can get the latest LOLs every time the site updates itself. You’ll be glad you subscribe, too, because the site updates itself at least daily.

Flickr is another treasure trove full of interesting pictures. I often do a search on funny photos by keying in the word “funny” in the search form, and I’ll get to see some cool photos such as this photo of the notice board directed at dogs — “Attention Dogs: Grrrrr, bark, woof. Good dog.”

For a slightly more adult humour on computers, IT and everything else digital, I go to Geekologie. It was this site that pointed me to the crazy Japanese slapping game, and recently it even featured a high-tech prophylactic that makes music! Sure would come in handy if you’re ever the person that gets easily bored while in action.

Uncyclopedia, the whacko’s reference to the Universe

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

This is the effect Uncyclopedia has on its readers. Image taken from http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Image:Hahauncyc.jpg.Thanks to a post by Brown Baron at Brown Thoughts, I found a wiki that is truly out of this world! It’s Uncyclopedia, an antithesis of Wikipedia, and its tagline is “the content-free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, unless the server goes down, in which case no-one can edit.” The great thing about this site is that the content is all bogus, and Wikipedia describes that “most of the articles are either completely fictional, or parodied to such an extent that little or no original factual accuracy remains”.

I highlighted in Brown’s site about how I love the definition for Mother, one being a person who creates moths for a living, much like how a lawyer invents laws for a living — hilarious! You can even rearrange the letters in Uncyclopedia to get words such as “Copied Lunacy”, “Loud Cynic Ape”, and — so they claimed — “Wikipedia”!

More? Uncyclopedia’s logo is a parody of Wikipedia’s, modified to look like hollowed potato (even has a Disabled Person icon!), and — get this — it even has its own flags, like the ones for the Kingdom of Uncyclopedia, Uncyclopedian Space Station of Retards, as well as Empire of Wikipedia, Totalitarian Lordship over Kamelopedia, Uncyclopedia and Encyclopædia Dramatica (right now it’s using the Sovereign Nation of Uncyclopedia flag)!

If you don’t have a sense of humour, don’t visit this site. If you do visit this site, don’t visit it during work hours in your office — you’ll make yourself look like a half-wit lunatic laughing your bottom off as your workmates run for their lives out of terror.

[EDIT] Oh my God, I just found another hilarious article in Uncyclopedia called Incomplete! PLEASE DON’T READ IT, I BEG YOU!
