Top Commentators Widget bug squishing now complete

Yatta! I did it! (courtesy of Hiro Nakamura of Heroes)

YATTA! You will be glad to know that the Top Commentators Widget is bug-free! Or at least I hope so.

Blank fields now have default values even if you didn’t fill in a thing; values are trimmed, htmlspecialcharsed, stripcslashed, exploded, and stuff. For those of you who have been using the control form version a.k.a. version 0.9, most of the bugs had appeared when any of the fields was left blank. This and a lot more have been addressed and dealt with in version 0.99. 0.99 because I think it still needs some testing out by someone other than myself, which means that you will be sacrificing your blog by risking the upgrade ;D

So, yeah, download it now. In the mean time, I’m off to finish up my WP 2.2 upgrade.

Spread the love

  1. Hmm, maybe I should look into that too, but I wonder, will it have a negative effect, cause they may not want to comment much to appear on the list?

  2. Thanks for the update. I was able to get the plugin working perfectly this time, but it messes up my style. Not real sure what to do yet.

If you have a test site with the widget activated, I can try and check what the problem is. It’s often just a minor mod on your CSS or I can recommend some other setting on the widget that you can use, such as limiting the appearance of each user name to a specific number of characters.

Your list of top commentators shows no one though…

    1. Lorna says:

      Yep, it’s reset monthly.

    Hi,

I think you did a really nice job on this plugin/widget. It was very easy to use and set up. I had a little trouble with it though. I’m not sure if it was one of the bug that you fixed. I’m not currently using your widget/plugin on my blog right now because it wouldn’t show up correctly. I’d really appreciate it if you can help me.

Pretty much, when I use your plugin/widget, I have to put the widget on either the top or bottom of the sidebar. Otherwise, whatever that is under the Top Commentator widget would end up “inside” the Top Commentator box.

    Could you please help me?

    Thank you,
    Kioko

It’s missing a closing li tag at the end — I’ll get it fixed and will let you know. Thanks for the note!

      1. Lorna says:

Alas, it has nothing to do with a missing li tag; in fact, everything’s in place as far as I have debugged.

Kioko, I’d really appreciate it if you could put up a test site for me to check it out. It could be the template that’s been used, but I’ll only know once I see the codes.

This is getting interesting…. am I gonna be in the top commentator list? 🙂

    1. Lorna says:

Depends — if the comments are more active than I anticipated, let’s hope your name appears at least for more than a week 🙂

  6. Brian says:

how does the plugin thingie work? it adds up top comments for the month, then drops them in?

    1. Lorna says:

Yeah, like what you can see in the main page right now 🙂 I set mine to reset monthly, so the list goes back to 0 every 1st day of the month. Just ensure you have widgets installed if you’re running a lower version than WP 2.2.
