Free web site background textures

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Wildheart’s Works took my Spark challenge to review one of my post in exchange of a blog back. You really need to check out her site, and particularly her latest creation of free background textures if you’re looking for one for your site. I never knew you can do so much with Paint Shop Pro. I’ve used PSP before, but found out about the powerful Photoshop and have never looked back.

Wanna take my challenge? Log into your SocialSpark account, or e-mail me once you make a review on yours. Better read the challenge conditions first before you do so.

Abandoned game Transport Tycoon

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Transport Tycoon logoUpdate: To download your favourite Bullfrog games, head over to Old School PC Games.

I was on the lookout for more old simulation games, particularly abandonware and DOS games, and got my hand on Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Basically I’ve downloaded a Windows ported version that the gaming company MicroProse made from its equally successful DOS version.

The editorial mentions that since the game has problems with language recognition, we need to type the following in the DOS prompt before running the game: type “set lang=english”. However, I was able to run the game pretty well even without the DOS prompt command.

Transport Tycoon screenshotTo be honest, I’ve never played this game before but the reviews for the game is pretty positive, so I gave it a go. Even after watching the tutorial, I didn’t really understood how to play it. I’d rather the tutorial looked something like Theme Park or Theme Hospital. Thank goodness for the discussion boards, or else I would be at a lost about how to start the game.

If you’re looking for old MicroProse games and other classic games, go check out Abandonia.

  1. I am having a BLAST with this site: The Advertising Slogan Generator is one wicked tool. Type in any word you fancy, and it’ll generate a slogan for you (obviously). The slogans are ridiculously hilarious!

Cool stuff — Googolopoly, BuiltWith.com

Friday, June 20th, 2008

It’s bookmarking clearing time, which means that I’m stashing a couple of worthy sites out for everyone’s enjoyment.

Googolopoly screen shotTechChee recently blogged about a Google-styled Monopoly game that Box.net calls Googolopoly (’cause Google does seem like they’re monopolizing the Internet, get it?). You play the game the same way you would Monopoly; instead of using money, and setting up houses and hotels, you use shares and recruiting developers and setting up servers. The estates featured on the boards are also changed — what used to be MayFair and Park Lane (or Boardwalk and Park Place if you’re in the States), are now Microsoft and Yahoo!. All you need to play this game is to download the PDF file containing your shares, cards and boards, then print them out and you’re raring to go!

BuiltWith logoI found this next tool through my routine bloghopping, though I forgot to bookmark the original blog post that featured it. BuiltWith.com is a comprehensive technology and SEO profile tool that helps you analyze your site on numerous aspects of your site, from the technology and software running your blog, to search engine ranking, and even the value of your site. In layman terms, it checks your SEO, your blog’s social networks, analytics used, and so forth. I particularly like the tool’s integration with third party sites like Compete.com (rank checker), Who Is Hosting This (shows who your actual hosting provider is, instead of your reseller), You Get Signal (how many domains shares your IP), and many more. Here’s WebGrrrl.net’s profile at BuiltWith if you’re interested to see it.
