I can’t believe it — this is almost as tragic as the Jonathan Brandis suicide. Renfro was a very gifted actor and very edgy from what I have seen, not only in The Client, but especially in Sleepers, playing the younger version of Brad Pitt. His acting affected me the way Christian Bale has, and would have been in the same league as Bale if Renfro hadn’t been so troubled with drugs and alcohol.
Hollywood has lost yet another big talent. May he rest in peace.
A short post to give a shout out to Adam McKerlie, who had graciously featured me in his blog, The Computer Zone, along with many other bloggers responding on the topic of what made us start blogging. When I heard an alt-pop-rock song called “Itu Kamu” (roughly translated as That’s You) playing on the radio, I thought, man, that’s another cool Indonesian song — I wonder when Malaysian artistes will step up to that kind of quality. Wow, was I shocked during the recent Akademi Fantasia concert, to know that the band that made that song not only hails from Malaysia, but the lead singer is a tanak wagu (boy) from Sabah — AF season 4′s very own Rich! I’m so proud of him, so proud! Maybe if I’m free this weekend, I’ll run over to the music store and buy me an Estranged album! The next important thing for the group is to get very good marketing and PR teams for them to zoom up internationally. The good news for now is that they’re going to be one of the opening acts in the Good Charlotte concert this week, together with the likes of my other favourite Malaysian local English acts, LO and One Buck Short.
The lyrical concept of Itu Kamu is as universal as any other love songs — it is of a person expressing the depth and dedication of his love to his one and only. Enjoy the following YouTube clip of Estranged‘s Itu Kamu. My English-speaking friends should be able to enjoy the catchy tune even if you don’t understand the Malay language.
Buffed men seldom attract my attention. In fact, they scare me a lot.
But not these men.
Forget the gory, limb-torn warfare. Sideline the crazy cinematography and special effects. This, my lady friends, is pure eye-candy. When I saw the making of this movie, I had my mouth hanging open as I watched the trailer and observed the actors actually working themselves off and turning into 8-pec pack spectacles! 8 PECS PACKS!! Wheeeee!!!
As for the movie itself, worth watching, but DON’T bring your kids along. Those whacked-out guys at South Park even made a parody of this movie in one of their series called L*sbi*n Bar (I replaced the actual word with asterisks to avoid from getting naughty searches — I’ve had enough of searches for Harry’s little friend).
